Alana Simmons, granddaughter of Rev. Daniel L. Simmons Sr., was in William & Mary’s remote broadcast studio to be interviewed by CNN and MSNBC. Rev. Simmons was among the nine people killed in the June 17, 2015 shooting at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C. by Dylan Roof.

Craftsmen at Valhalla's Forge LLC created a replica of the presidential seal with historical in-lays that belonged to members of the American armed forces who have died in service to the nation. The seal now sits in the Oval Office of the White House.
